The most common reaction of people who try set dancing for the first time is "it's really great fun, I wish I had found out about this years ago!". Why not give it a try, it could well be the start of a new and very enjoyable lifelong pastime!
Class Outline:The class is primarily about dancing for enjoyment in a friendly, sociable environment. The aim is to teach the steps, figures and timing for the popular sets, such that dancers who attend regularly will be able to enjoy dancing a set, without calling.
While the figures, steps and timing of the popular sets will be explained and practised, we don't take it too seriously - sometimes it's even more fun when things go astray! You don't need a partner, the majority of people come along on their own. One thing for sure is that you will be made welcome, we are all delighted to see new people coming through the door for the first time, whether they are men on their own, women on their own, or couples. Above all else, the primary objective is to have fun.
Clothing and Shoes:No special clothing is required, just wear whatever you are comfortable in. Although leather-soled shoes are easiest to dance in, your choice of footwear is totally up to you.
Latest News:In the event that class has to be cancelled any week, e.g. due to bad weather, or any other changes, an email will be sent to the mailing list (you can add your email address to the mailing list below) and a notice will be published at the top of this page. If you are travelling a long distance, you may wish to check this page for any updates before leaving home - any changes will be highlighted in red at the top of the page and will be easy to spot.
Ceili: We also hope to arrange a ceili from time-to-time, details to follow.
If you are within reach of Ballinafad, you are very welcome to join us - you will be made very welcome and we guarantee a good night's craic!
